Getting to Atauro Island

Getting to Atauro Island - The weekly Berlin Nakroma Ferry
The weekly Berlin Nakroma Ferry to Atauro Island

There are two main options to get to Atauro Island – water taxi or public ferry.

Beloi Beach Hotel operates a daily water taxi from Dili that leaves at 08.00 every morning. And takes about an hour to make the crossing to Beloi on the east coast of Atauro.

The boat returns to Dili from Beloi at 09.30 and one-way fares are US$45.

Alternatively there is a weekly ferry service from Dili to Beloi every Saturday. The ferry service is operated by the government of Timor Letste. And uses the Berlin Nakroma, which was a gift to te country from Germany.

The Nakroma departs at 09.00 from the main port in Dili and the crossing takes up to 3 hours, depending on the weather. It returns again at 15.00 from Beloi.

Tickets must be purchased at least one day in advance – so a bit of planning is required….

Fares in “Business Class” which apparently means anybody who is a foreigner… is US$5 each way.
